So, does a car really have a signature sound? Yes. I know this because my father worked for Mercedes-Benz for 30 years. As a result, I’ve been able to tell when a Mercedes is driving up behind me since middle school. The engine has a very distinctive sound that I could easily pick out of [...]

Raising Lil’ Bow Wow: hiding my taste in music from my child
by Mamadyne on May 9, 2012
As soon as I got pregnant, I had to rethink many things in my life, including one of my most prized possessions – the small case of CDs mixes I had made in high school during the glorious days when Napster was alive. With the help of free downloads, every Friday night my friends and [...]
4 ways American Idol is like the Hunger Games
by TheBenevolentSiren on May 7, 2012
Full disclosure: I love televised singing competitions, and American Idol is a regular feature on my DVR. Despite the overly-maudlin backstories and ubiquitous product placement, it’s hard to forgo the delicious pleasure of ruthlessly judging people from the comfort of my own home–especially since it lets me live their dreams vicariously and forget that I could never [...]

When my co-worker told me that the legendary radio and TV personality had passed, a wave of sadness washed over [...]

Must-Hear Song of the Day: Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye (ft. Kimbra)
by TheBenevolentSiren on April 13, 2012
“Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye (ft. Kimbra) is, in the words of American Idol judge Steven Tyler, “changing music.” This #1 hit stands in stark musical contrast to most other contemporary radio fare, featuring a xylophone solo and haunting vocals evocative of Peter Gabriel. This earworm has surfaced across many television platforms [...]

The Voices:
The Benevolent Siren
Hi! I’m The Benevolent Siren. I’m a connoisseur of fine vegetarian cuisine, a TV fanatic, an organization enthusiast, and most importantly, I’m in the throes of a passionate love affair with music. There are some songs that play in your bones, veins and guts, not just your ears; those are the ones that keep me going. I guess you could say my heart beats to an 808 drum.
AudiOdysseus
My name is AudiOdysseus. Admittedly, I would never describe myself as a hero of any kind and I tend to get seasick in open water. But I love adventure. There is nothing I appreciate more than exploring new territories and gathering information about the world around me. Those are also the types of posts you can expect from me. I’ll be writing mostly about new gadgets, emerging trends, and my work-related travels to other lands.
Penny Lane
I'm a lover of pop-culture, a runner with a mad sweet tooth and an addiction to coffee. Read my musings about life, movie and music happenings here and the world at large.
Ace of Bass
Born and raised in the Silicon Valley, I have an innate passion for the latest in technology. I'll post about home theater, sound, apps and much more.
