Velodyne was honored to be a part of the 11th Annual Eggie Awards during CES in Las Vegas earlier this month. Newegg shared their sucess with all of their partners at the swanky club XS with food, swag and open bar. Velodyne rubbed elbows with companies like Logitech, Intel, AMD, and Microsoft. We were awarded the Best Marketplace Brand Partner for 2014. Such a great honor and fun celebration for everyone involved. Visit Newegg’s blog to read more about the Eggies.

Last month, Velodyne ran a special promotion on our pink vPulse headphones. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we sold our pink in-ear headphones in a 2-for-$50 promotion with a portion of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research. We are proudly donating to our organization of choice, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We wanted to go beyond providing awareness and contribute to a foundation actively working towards prevention and a cure for this disease. A woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer every 2 minutes and there are nearly 3 million survivors here in the U.S. alone according to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation website.
“In 2014-2015, BCRF will award $58.6 million in annual grants to 222 scientists from top universities and medical institutions around the globe. In addition, $11.6 million has been committed to the international Founder’s Fund project focused on metastasis.” Mestasis is the spreading of cancer or tumors to other parts of the body than the place it first started. With sound financial efficiency (88% of their funds go to actual breast cancer research), this foundation seemed to be the best to receive our proceeds out of the many choices available.
If you are interested in making a donation to this foundation, please visit their donation page on their website.

As many of you already know October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer is something that affects the lives of many people in ways that are both measureable and unmeasurable. In recognition of this, Velodyne is running a promotion this month on our pink vPulse in-ear headphones. We are offering 2 pink vPulse for $50 on velodyne.com and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to a breast cancer charity.
Breast cancer affects many people in many different ways. It is true that about 1 in 8 American women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. It is also true that about 40,000 women will die from breast cancer just this year alone. Breast cancer research is of great importance to those affected, whether, victims, survivors or their families. Funds are required to support scientific research, whether it be to raise awareness about early detection and treatment options, prevention, risk reduction, and research into possible environmental contributors.
How can you help? Spread the word. Many band together to do breast cancer walks, which are as much about support and solidarity as raising funds for the cause. Be a good friend, spouse or child to someone you know that is affected. And, hope for the cure.

As we make our way to Denver on Sept. 10 for CEDIA Expo 2014 – the year’s biggest event for the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association – that sound you hear is our newest collaboration, poised to make beautiful music.
We’ve teamed up with The PowerHouse Alliance, a consortium of regional wholesale distributors, to provide audio/visual installers and retailers in all 50 states with convenient access to our full line of high-performance, low distortion subwoofers.
We’re now making our subwoofers available to the thousands of small consumer electronics retailers and professional installers around the country who rely on The PowerHouse Alliance when selecting the very finest components for a home theater or entertainment center installation.
For us, this is an ideal collaboration between two high-tech companies, both of which know how to take care of the customer. And it’s especially good news for custom installers and integrators across the U.S., who gain access to the best subs on the market.
Founded in 2010, The PowerHouse Alliance consortium consists of 13 regional wholesale distributors that provide everything a small consumer electronics retailer or installer needs to outfit a home theater, entertainment center or home security system. Each of its 40 warehouse locations stock a full line of nearly 200 different brands, ranging from home theater components and wire to lighting fixtures and furnishings.
Custom installers appreciate that our subwoofers deliver superior sound in every type of system. In addition to introducing the first remote controlled subwoofers, we’ve engineered sophisticated and easy-to-use digital room bass EQ systems; easy to build in-wall, in-cabinet, in-floor and in-room subwoofers; and one-button-to-perfect bass automatic equalizations for music, theater and games. To ensure maximum output and minimum distortion, unique “anti-clipping” circuits in our subwoofers automatically monitor the amplifier, allowing the subwoofer to exploit its full power capacity without distorting. Exclusive “dynamic-compression” and over-excursion circuits are also integrated into our subwoofers to protect from overload and provide extraordinary reliability and durability.
For more than 30 years, we’ve been recognized as the leading manufacturer of high-performance, low distortion powered subwoofers that fit any budget – from the Velodyne Impact-Mini 6.5-Inch Subwoofer ($459) to the powerful Velodyne Digital Drive PLUS 18-Inch Subwoofer ($5,799) and plenty of options in between. Newest on the shelf are the Velodyne Wi-Q® Wireless 10-inch and Wi-Q® Wireless 12-inch subwoofers, which are the culmination of three decades of leadership in subwoofer technology. With no clumsy wires, the Wi-Q can be quickly integrated into any entertainment system – in any location within 50 feet (15 m) – or concealed in custom cabinetry.
CEDIA, of course, is the leading global authority in the $14 billion home tech business. CEDIA represents some 3,500 companies worldwide and serves more than 22,000 industry professionals that make, design and integrate products and services for the connected home. CEDIA is also the go-to destination for professional education, certification, research and consumer awareness.
Off to Denver! (And if you happen to be in town, look us up – we’ll be in Booth 1346, at the Colorado Convention Center.)

It’s August now and we all know what that means…It’s time to head back to school. This can be a sort of chaotic time of year as many of us are scrambling to figure out what we need to buy in order to get ready for the first day of school. This post is intended to provide some insight as to what kinds of things you should consider when you go back to school shopping in the next few weeks. Instead of boring you with the obvious necessities like pens, paper, binders and stuff like that I will try to give you some ideas for items that you may not think of right off the top of your head.
The first item that I think everyone needs to consider closely is a new backpack. I know that I promised that I wouldn’t bore you with obvious items, but this is actually something I felt is worth mentioning. When kids go to school they have to lug around books which are HEAVY. When I was in middle school it always drove me nuts having a backpack that hurt my back when it was full of books. Often I would just choose to not bring books with me to school because I didn’t want to carry them around. This didn’t always go over well with teachers, but I didn’t want to have a sore back at the end of the day. What is my point? Well, when it comes to backpacks my advice is to shop around a bit and invest in a good one. They even have back packs with wheels on them now which are a lifesaver. You will thank yourself for it down the road.
The second item that I think everyone should have is a reusable water bottle. These come in BPA-free plastic and stainless steel, among other materials. There are convenient sizes and shapes, those that fit in your cup holder in the car, as well as the side sleeve of your backpack. Remember that when school starts it is still actually summer which means that it is still quite hot out. Being a equipped with a water bottle will keep you hydrated to avoid fatigue and other side affects of dehydraton. This is especially true for grade school kids who play outside in the heat during recess. You will also save money with a reusable water bottle as you won’t have to buy individual bottles of water whenever you are thirsty and this is also kind to the environment.
The next item on my list is a pair of headphones and not just any headphones. Get yourself a quality pair of headphones that are stylish, comfortable to wear and above all deliver premium sound. You may, depending on your school and grade, wear headphones while walking to class, waiting for the bus, on the bus, in the library and during free time on campus. The Velodyne vLeve are an excellent choice for those students out there who are looking to invest in a good pair of headphones before heading back to school. As you may already know the vLeve are customizable with our designer skins. The vLeve are also very light weight with soft ear pads and head pads making them comfortable to wear. Finally, the vLeve provide premium sound quality so you can listen to all your favorite tunes loud and clear while you are on-the-go.
Now of course if you are going to invest in a pair of vLeve headphones then I would also highly recommend you download Onkyo music player to get the best sound performance out of your new headphones. For those of you that have never heard of Onkyo music player, it is an equalizer app that works much like the music player app on your iPhone or Android phone with one key difference. It allows you to equalize all your songs either by the presets or by hand. I’ve had this app on my phone for about 6 months now and I love it. By changing the presets for individual songs I can get the best sound performance out of all my Velodyne headphones which makes this app a must have in my book.
There are two more must have items on my back-to-school list. The first of which is a USB thumb drive. Most of you know what these are and what they are used for. Thumb dives are little pocket sized flash memory cards that plug into the USB port of a computer. You can put all kinds of different files on them in order to go from one computer to another. These are handy for research papers, PowerPoint presentations, pictures, music and anything else you might have that is school related on your computer.
Lastly, I recommend a dry erase board for lockers or dorm rooms, or even study areas for those headed back to school. This will allow you to write reminders and have themt posted somewhere that you will see it. These also come in handy to jot down ideas, and rough outlines of papers. You can’t beat the visual impact notes written on a dry erase board have, and the ease of changing those ideas with the swipe of the eraser.
Hope everyone is prepped with all of their essentials. Comment below with your favorite back to school item for a chance to win some Velodyne swag.

Mother’s Day is coming up on May 11…have you purchased your gift yet? Every year, we mull over the same old options: perfume, jewelry, flowers, etc. If your mother is cool, and likes music and has a sense of style and taste, we have just the thing for her.
Our vLeve and vFree are both unique, high-quality headphones. In addition to their teardrop shape, designed by our President and artist Marta Hall, they obviously have the incredible Velodyne sound. We have created a reusable skin, made of either PVC or silicone depending on the style, that serves as a headphone cover, much like the iPhone covers on the market. These skins have fun, artistic designs in many colors that can be switched out to match an outfit or a mood. These skins turn your portable electronics into an instant fashion statement. The headphones make quite a statement on their own. They are collapsible and come with their own drawstring carrying pouch which comes in handy when they are not in use. The vLeve is a great wired headphone which creates the perfect base for any one of our designer skins. The vFree headphone is equipped with Bluetooth technology. Music on the go, free of wires is a pretty amazing thing. Additionally, the battery lasts 10 hours and is rechargeable. What are you waiting for? Shop our website so you don’t show up empty-handed.

Arena Football season is here. We are happy to say that we are again sponsoring the San Jose SaberCats this Arena Football season. For those of you that were not aware, we sponsored the SaberCats last year during the 2013 season. We attended three home games at SAP center where we showcased a few of our headphones including the vTrue, vFree and vLeve out on the concourse. We also did a raffle and gave away a pair of headphones at each game we went to.
We are proud to say that we attended the SaberCats home opener on Sunday March 23rd at SAP Center and showed off almost our full line of headphones. This year we are showing off our vQuiet noise-cancelling headphones, vBold Bluetooth headphones in addition to the vFree, vTrue, vLeve. If you did not see us at the home opener don’t worry because we will be at 2 more SaberCats home games this year. Our next game will be on May 3rd at SAP center when the SaberCats take on the Orlando Predators. We will also attend the SaberCats last home game of the regular reason on Friday July 11 when the SaberCats take on the Tampa Bay Storm. So if you were not able already please stop by our table and listen to our headphones at our next game.

This month is a busy one for Velodyne marketing. We are participating in two trade shows that nearly overlap each other in different parts of the country. The Nationwide Marketing Group is putting on the Primetime vendor show from March 9-12, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. This marketing group represents nearly 5000 independent retailers of Furniture, appliances, and consumer electronics in the US and Canada.
Velodyne has joined the Nationwide Marketing Group as one of its newest vendors. Like the members of the Nationwide, Velodyne is a family owned, independent company. Nationwide Primetime is a show put on for the Nationwide membership twice a year for the vendors to showcase product to the members and meet face to face. This Primetime show will be Velodyne’s first opportunity to introduce the Nationwide membership to Velodyne’s products. We will be showing our complete current subwoofer line as well as participating in workshops and conferences. We are looking forward to taking advantage of profitable opportunities at this huge buying show. Come out and see us!
Another first for Velodyne is the participation in SXSW. This music, film and interactive trade show taking place in Austin, TX March 7-16, 2014 promises a lot of great exposure for Velodyne. This show will provide a great platform for marketing and promoting our business to a large but targeted audience. In addition to the trade show, we will have our headphones on display, complete with listening stations at stand 726, and at stand 401 at The Music Gear Expo as well. We are excited to connect with buyers, musicians and tech gear-heads. Of course we look forward to catching some great music while we’re in town. We are partnering with Cellar Music to put on the Jump-Off party at Maggie Mae’s on March 12. Two bands that Velodyne has worked closely with this past year, The Mowgli’s and Finish Ticket, will be performing with a host of other bands that will provide a rockin’ experience. We also plan to have headphone giveaways throughout the week. Hope to see you there!
