Matt Elam was born on September 21, 1991 and raised in Riviera Beach, Florida. Growing up in the state of Florida, Matt always imaged himself playing for the Florida Gators and that’s where he went for college. In his last year at Florida, he was on the 2013 College Football All-America Team.
In 2013, his junior year, Elam declared for the NFL draft. Elam was viewed as one of the top safeties this years 2013 draft. Many NFL scouts doubted him because being 5’10, he was lacked in size for a safety. However, the Baltimore Ravens who is known to have the best defense selected him in the first round (32nd overall pick) in the 2013 NFL draft.
Matt Elam just needed a few practices and one game to show what he’s capable of. Elam was promoted to as a starter just his second regular-season game. Elam now starts for the Baltimore Ravens where he now plays every snap in the Safety position.
