Phenomenal little air mover with great sound
I purchased the MiniVee back in 2009, and it has been a reliable performer since then. I was already familiar with Velodyne's reputation for quality deep bass performance. I have used it in a home theater system with compact satellite speakers, and in my two-channel system to support the bottom end of mini-monitor speakers. It has a surprisingly deep reach for such a small box (hitting the mid-20s in my room) and a stern bass punch when called upon, with almost no boom or overhang, just an accurate, powerful sound. I'm very glad to see that this classic product is still available, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an unobtrusive subwoofer that still adds real deep, dynamic bass to a system in a small to medium sized room. The bigger Optimum-series subwoofers might need to be considered for the largest rooms.
Great bass from an unbelievable Size
Got this sub 4/5 years ago and absolutely love it. I worked at Circuit city for 4 years and knew that Velodyne was king in our sound room. The DPS series woofers we had on display always provided better bass with less watts than anything else we had to offer but were way too big for under my computer desk. That's where this little bad boy caught my eye. After reading a couple reviews and looking at the RMS, 1000 watts!?! I really couldn't believe it. So I went out on a limb and bought it. WOW! This thing is small, but damn is it heavy! The magnet and sub must be like 20lbs alone plus the box and amp! When it came I pulled it out, and I had to give it a go. Well, let me just say, that night was basstastic! All I did was hook it up to the output on my I-home and BOOM! Had to turn it down to stop my cup on my desk from vibrating around :-)! Then I hooked it up to my receiver and it just got better. Not as boomy or "loud" as a competitors 12" I have, but for the size it is true audiophile quality. Anyone in need of a tight sounding sub with no porting, in cabinet support, and small package should definitely investigate this little bad boy! I highly recommend it.
Terrific Bass !
I was enjoying my MiniVee attached to my 2.1 sound system for the last 4 years, recently I changed to a new Home teather System and connect the MiniVee to a 5.1 configuration, the bass was deep and profound in DTS HD Movies, incredible and astonishing in Dolby Digital...I am really impressed with this tiny subwoofers that plays as a great one.
Since this is an analog Sub, you have to spend some time configuring your A/V receiver, but at the end of the road, you will enjoy all your music and movies.
My SACD's sounds better than ever thanks to this litlle friend... I'm enjoying my CDs and movies again, because definitely they sounds better in a multi-channel system with this sub...I love my MiniVee!

The wife had already picked out a beautiful entertainment center. While wanting big sound for music and movies, neither of us wanted a sub sitting in the room. The mini fit perfectly in a lower cabinet. Bass blows us away!
Money well spentBy Kevon Manuel March 05, 2012
I don't have the MiniVee 8 but have the SPL II 800 which is the same as this unit but with a glossy finish instead of the Mini's matte finish. Anyway, my one Velodyne sub kicked the living crap out of my [competitor] subs (I have 2). The [competitor] subs together, with "more power" 1200rms/2400peak each, 8 inch drivers and passive radiators and have cabinets with greater internal volume, got floored big time by the one "less powerful" Velodyne. The guys at Velo are sub experts, they do magic with enclosures of ridiculously small sizes.
